Wireless
There are two types of wireless connections that can be implemented, namely:
- WLAN: a WLAN allows you to connect to your network from a PC, Laptop, cell phone or printer rather than running cables over and above your cabled infrastructure.
- The second form of “wireless connection” is when you connect two locations via a longer distance. One thing that must be taken into consideration when doing this is that you cannot transmit wireless via a public road. ICASA who is the Independent Communications authority in South Africa will shut down the network if picked up. Many companies are installing Wireless connections and this is illegal.
The only companies that have been issued Wireless licences are Iburst, Sintech, MTN, Vodacom and Telkom. Many ISP’s produce a VAN licence when a client requests to see the Wireless licence. A VAN’s licence does not entitle them to install a Wireless network.
